2 Simple Tips to Personalize Links in YOUR Profile

2 Simple Tips to Personalize Links in YOUR Profile

Now a days when we sign up for an app like LinkedIn we usually get assigned a username or handle. In some cases we get to pick it and depending on how many Bob Smith's there are there may be a bunch of numbers after it. It lacks the personality that represents who YOU are! If you are like me...you probably signed up for LinkedIn many years ago and never gave your LinkedIn profile link another thought. Well...maybe it's time to take a couple of minutes and make a few simple changes that can help you stand out from the rest!

To get started on this process - I recommend that you first have a look in the mirror so you can see what others see when they click on your profile. To do that - go to your profile page (I usually just click on my picture to take me there) . You should see the following:

While you are in here - take a quick scan to make sure you are happy with what is being displayed. There are some options on the right hand side of the page to make sure you are publicly displaying information so people can see information that you want them to know about you. Here is mine for reference:

Tip 1: Personalize YOUR LinkedIn Profile Link

So...you may have noticed that I highlighted in yellow in the picture above, "Edit public profile and URL". Click on that link and the following will appear:

Now click on the "pencil" and you can personalize the link to your profile. You may have to play with it a bit as your name may already be taken by another Bob Smith, but the cool part is, YOU get to choose.

Tip 2: Personalize YOUR Website Link

You may also have a website link you have included in YOUR profile. No doubt, depending on the type of website link you dutifully chose the correct option from the drop down list. In my case I chose "personal" and as a result I got a generic label on my profile as follows:

What if YOU could personalize it so others know more about the link? Well...YOU can!

Here are a few simple steps to do it!

First - go back to your profile page and click on the pencil as highlighted below:

Now focus on the boxes where you put your website link and the category on the right drop down:

Choose "Other" from the drop down

Then type in the description that YOU would like to display!

Click Apply and then Save! That's all there is to it!

Now when you go back to view YOUR public profile - the name should be updated to what you have personalized.

These may seem like small things but each step helps you stand out from the rest. It's all about how you can...
