Hi.

Welcome to YOU Can be a Somebody.  Stories...observations and reflection on our Leadership Journey!

When Was the Last Time YOU Audited YOUR Interests?

When Was the Last Time YOU Audited YOUR Interests?

We are ALL social sellers and trying in our own way to optimize our digital presence and journey. As the saying goes....

"If YOU Want to be Interesting,

Be Interested"

So...when was the last time YOU reviewed your "Interests" on LinkedIn? You probably set some up in the beginning and have been clicking "FOLLOW" as you scroll through your feed. It's now time to have a peek and see if you can clean some up that may be clogging your news-feed and add in those you may be missing!

Where Do I Find The Interests I am Following?

On the home page navigate to YOUR profile. There are a couple of ways to do this - I usually just click on my picture on the top left of the screen.

Once you are there - scroll all the way to the bottom to find the "Interests" section

This will show a summary of a few of the things you are following. If you click "See all" another screen will appear:

I Found My Interests - Now What do I do?

  • All of YOUR Interests are sorted by Influencers, Companies, Groups & Schools. If one of these is not showing it means you haven't followed anything in these categories yet.

  • Have a scan through each of the categories by clicking through the tabs on the tool bar. Are there any you think you can unfollow because you are not getting the value out of the content you thought you would? Is there any that come to mind that you should add i.e. Alma Mater, Customer Companies? If you aren't following YOUR customers YOU should!

  • Once you have identified the companies, schools etc that you want to add in, you can head back to the homepage. In the Search bar at the top left of the LinkedIn screen, start typing the name of a company, school, etc and they should appear below. Pick your choice from the list. Once you get to their page, click follow.

How DO I Find Other Interests to Follow?

There are a few ways to get inspired on other Interests to follow:

  • Navigate to the pages of the Companies you are following. On the right side of the page there will be suggestions of other pages to follow (Affiliated pages)

  • Click on the profile of your key customer contacts and look at their interests. What is interesting to them should be wildly interesting to YOU! It may give you some common topics to discuss and aid in your social selling.

  • While you are on the profile page of your key customer contacts - take a quick scan at the right hand side of the page where you can see "People Also Viewed". These are other contacts that people in the network are looking at which may be great suggestion for you to connect or follow.

  • Click on My Network on the Home Page Tool Bar

No doubt you have been on this page frequently to accept or decline connection requests. If you grab a cup of coffee and take some time, you will also find a lot of suggestions of influencers, groups, newsletters, companies, people etc... that you can follow.

In Summary...

I'm sure you have discovered a lot of these tips and tricks along the way. The key is to bring it all together and periodically take inventory of what you are doing. It is a delicate balance between finding and following the content that you find useful in your social selling journey...while not overwhelming yourself with too much.

Last tip...on your homepage you can toggle between "TOP POSTS" and "MOST RECENT" in your news feed. Depending on how you have that sort set you may be missing posts from your interests at the moment you are logged in.
